Here is the October 06 report on our work on the Mosquito.

1. Most of our mans’ work this month has again been in support of the wing construction with a number of attachment plates and fittings receiving attention. We have fabricated 24 special washers for installation under the main wing fitting to spar bolts. The rear undercarriage scissor link castings have been overhauled. New bushings were fabricated for each bolted joint.

2. The last of the load transfer plates for the U/C mounts on the engine bay ribs were assembled and these have all now been given to Glyn to use in the wing assembly. The final steel wing fitting components have been delivered from the welding shop and these have been inspected and painted and are now with Glyn.

3. Work continues on the 20mm gun doors and we are fabricating a former to use to remake the skin.

4. The crew door ladder has come back from plating, has been painted and assembled and is now hanging on the door where it belongs.

5. The last parts are being finalised for the Browning doors and these will be all finished this month.

The rear spar webs have been attached to the faces of the spar and the ash doubler strips are also in place. The assembly has now been mounted in the jig ready for drilling the attachment fittings. The jig provides guides for drilling the various holes that allow the attachment of the wing mount fittings and the engine and landing gear attach fittings. With these fittings now temporarily attached to the spar, it is possible to hold the spar in the fixture and begin to set up the ribs. A lot of care has to be taken to ensure the holes are drilled correctly.

The completed front spar has been drilled for the engine mount attach fittings and has been mounted in the jig.

Some ribs have been located and teporarily fixed in position.

Work has now begun on the tankbay doors which make up 75% of the bottom wing skin.
