Here is the November 2007 report on our work on the Mosquito.
1. We have been able to complete the repair to rudder by replacing the lower casting with one removed from the rudder that was sent down with the Dragon. We have crack tested and cleaned up this one and it is now fitted to the rudder with new hardware and bearings.
2. The canopy rebuild is now complete from a structure perspective and we have mounted it to the fuselage to allow work to continue with the windscreen and quarter glass assembly.
3. The various sections that have been cut out of the oil tanks have had replacement panels formed and a number of these have been welded in place.
4. There has been a lot of work done on the hydraulics this month. The smoothing valve ahs been fully overhauled and tested. The hand pump has also been overhauled and tested along with the operating handle. We have made up a rig to test and set the hydraulic system components. This involves leak checking and setting the main relief valves. Also function test and leak checking the non return valves. The main selector valve has been overhauled and tested on this rig where we have set the lever trip out pressures to the book values. We have also leak tested the tailwheel retract ram.
5. We have stripped down a canopy assembly of Glyns to liberate the Perspex panels to use as moulds and patterns for the production of new panels for your canopy.
6. We have begun the aileron rebuilds also this month. One aileron has been stripped down to its individual components and it appears that it will all be able to be used again with just the replacement of the main skins required.
7. We have continued with the nacelle rebuild and most of the useable components from the nacelles have now been liberated and we can begin building the new ribs and stringers that are required. New skins will be needed all round.
8. We have overhauled and fitted the lower rudder mount to the rear fuselage and installed new bearings and hardware throughout.
