Here is the March/April/May 2009 report on our work on the Mosquito.
The main area of attention over the past three months has been the hydraulic and pneumatic plumbing. At this time all of the plumbing that travels down trough the cockpit floor and along the gun and bomb bay and into the rear fuselage where it connects to the main panel, has been completed. These are all new pipes from new tubing, fabricated, leak tested cleaned and fitted. The various components that they connect to have all also been overhauled and tested and are now finally installed. Numerous attachment brackets and blocks have also been fabricated to support the pipes as per the original design. The focus now is on the pipework that runs out along the wing spars to the engines.
The lower firewalls have also been mostly completed this month. The new stainless panels have been formed and fitted and these support the wheel bay nacelle and allow us to fit the engine bearers. Work has moved onto the nacelles now.
We are in receipt of a pair of machined fittings that support the engine control torque tubes. Unfortunately the original magnesium units were all cracked due to the corrosion between the steel bearing race and the casting. These are away being anodised, and upon return can be fitted, along with the new torque tubes, to the front of the spars.
Work will continue on the forward sections of the engine nacelles this month.
