Here is the March 2008 report on our work on the Mosquito.
1. Good progress on all fronts, with the wing fabric job nearing completion. The main area has been totally covered and work is now centred on the openings and edges where there are numerous tapes and doublers required. We will be applying the sprayed coats of silver by the middle of April.
2. Work continues on the left aileron. The spar repairs are almost complete and some rib work is also finished.
3. The fuel tank rebuild continues and we have now completed a pair of cells for the outboard left position and are working on the next bay.
4. We have returned to the wiring and are progressing well with that and have completed some more conduits. We have begun to asses the instrument requirements from the fuel gauges through to the engine instruments and have made up wish lists for all the components we require. At this stage we are trying to source the Canadian manufactured items and if this proves fruitless we will then continue with British substitutes
5. The firewall work continues with the fabrication of some of the unusual fittings that mount to the skin. We have also sourced the new material for the firewalls.
6. We have found some original side window units and gear cable rollers that were needed for the project. These are old RNZAF stock and are in as new condition.
Should have a silver wing next month.
