Here is the May/June 2010 report on our work on the Mosquito.
Bit of interesting assembly completed this period as we have had the tail surfaces painted in their finish colours and have installed them along with the elevators and rudder to the tail of the aircraft. We have fitted and rigged the elevator cables as well as the elevator trim and the rudder trim. We have installed the chain guard onto the top of the horizontal. Allied to this has been the completion of the tailwheel installation with the completion of the hydraulic plumbing and special hoses. The tail gear can now be retracted hydraulically.
We have started to finally install the canopy and have begun the glazing. We have secured the attachment flange to the opening in the fuselage and have sealed the attaché angle to the structure and taped over the joint. The canopy frame required a small amount of modification to correct some damage, but now is the correct profile. We are in the process of rebating and drilling the screw attachment holes in the acrylic panels.
We have completed the metal work flanges on the dingy locker lid. The lid fits flush with the top of the fuselage and can be fitted permanently now.
We have dismantled and cleaned up the right hand engine bearer assembly and all the attachment clamps and bracketry for the engine installation. These small parts have been cad plated and painted as has the mount in readiness for the engine.
We have mounted the left engine onto its bearers and fitted the complete assembly to the firewall on the left side.
The seat harnesses have been fabricated by Hookers and have arrived.
The control systems have all been completed in this period. We have fitted the trim control units into the cockpit along with the associated cables and chains. The main cables for the ailerons and elevators have also been fitted. You can sit in the cockpit now with all the primary and trim controls connected and can work everything.
