Here is the July 2010 report on our work on the Mosquito.
We have continued with the work around the tail with the repairs to the tailwheel mudguard. The cracks have been welded up and dressed and the dents planished out. The elevator pullet guard has received the same treatment and has been fitted along with the mudguard to the mounting frame.
We have installed more hydraulic equipment with the smoothing valve now installed and the vent and main selector connection pipes installed.
We have continued with the canopy glazing and have completed the left side and the fwd upper right side. Some original closing strips have been good enough to use and some require replacing. The parts have come back from plating for the windscreen de-ice hand pump, so this has been assembled. A new plunger shaft and return spring has been incorporated and the unit has been function tested. It is now installed and a new connection pipe has been made.
We have prepared the R/H cockpit side wall oxygen pipework and installed these as well as fabricated the pipes that run under the cockpit coaming. The main shut off valve and blinker are installed. The brake triple gauge pipework has also been fabricated from the base of the control column up to the pressure gauge in the panel.
We have begun work on the rebuild of the main gear doors. The left hand outboard door is the first one we are doing and we are well into the re-assembly. The inner skin and ribs are original with just a new outer skin required.
The R/H engine has arrived and we have begun preparations for installation. The fire suppression pipes that wrap around the carburetor and over the top of the supercharger and forward along the cylinder banks have all been installed.
The trailing aerial antenna guides have been refurbished and coated in varnish and installed at the winch, along the top of the navigation bench and also at the top L/H rear of the cockpit.
The centre bomb bay fuel tanks are now both complete.
The long range oil tank is also complete as is the new de-ice tank. We have completed the aileron rigging and set up the throws. The balance cable has been fitted and we have rigged the servo and trim tabs as well.
